Moments of Wonder
art direction + PUBLICATION DESIGN
The 2017-18 Annual Report for Discovery Place was reimagined to feel more like a photo book than a traditional report. With so many exciting milestones happening across the organization’s four museums, the standard magazine-style format couldn’t do the year justice.
To bring this vision to life, I art-directed a dynamic photo shoot, collaborating with a talented local commercial photographer to capture the energy and impact of the year’s biggest moments. My role included managing the relationship with the photographer, selecting models, creating detailed shot lists, and approving images on set to ensure every photo aligned with the creative vision.
The final product focused heavily on vibrant, storytelling images paired with concise, caption-style narratives. This approach highlighted the museum’s achievements visually, creating an engaging photo album of the year’s highlights. The back pages featured key figures and metrics presented in clean, accessible layouts to round out the story.
The accompanying gallery showcases some of the stunning images from the shoot, each carefully art-directed to capture the essence of Discovery Place’s mission and community impact. This visually driven approach brought the organization’s accomplishments to life, turning the annual report into a keepsake-worthy celebration of a remarkable year.
